Total Productive Maintenance (TPM)

Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) is an extension of preventative maintenance concepts. Preventative maintenance takes machines out of production at regular intervals to perform routine checks and to make any necessary repairs. Typically, lubricants (i.e grease, oil) are renewed at this time to ensure peak machine efficiency and to hopefully prevent major equipment failures.
TPM is different from mainstream preventative maintenance programs in that it relies on the machine operator to perform most or all of the maintenance tasks.
