Quality control concepts and techniques can be subdivided into two major categories:
Inspection techniques utilize sampling theory to randomly select members from a population. Characteristics of the population are subsequently inferred by measuring that characteristic of the sample.
Process control, or SPC techniques use statistical theory to determine if a process is in a state of statistical control.
