Takt time
What pace does your factory need to operate at in order to satisfy your customer? The answer to this question is your takt time.
Sample Calculation:
Total customer monthly demands are 10,000. Let's assume that there are 20 working days in a month and the plant only operates 8 hours/day. The total time available in the plant during the month is:
20 x 8 x 60 x 60 = 576,000 seconds
Therefore, the plant has 576,000/10,000 = 57.6 seconds to produce one unit of production.
If a machine or operation in the plant cannot achieve the takt time rate is must be considered to be a constraint.
